Part 7 – Six Days in Hong Kong
Last Saturday the Tahitian Princess arrived in Hong Kong. I very excitedly rushed off the ship to meet Chris on the pier. There’s a photo of the two of us that some passengers insisted on taking after witnessing our very happy and teary hello.
The rest of the day was then spent disembarking the ship with all our baggage, transferring to our very lovely L’Hotel… and of course some shopping time was shoved in wherever possible.
Sunday, we all had a day doing our own thing which for most of us was shopping before finally meeting up for a few bevies. On Monday, all ten of us very very excitedly took ourselves off to Disneyland. Jade, a dancer from my first contract back in 2003 works there with her husband in the Golden Mickey’s show, and very kindly got some of us in for free. The weather here has been great and we had an amazing day. We had so much fun seeing the shows and going on the rides.
Tuesday, we had a big day on Hong Kong Island. We caught the ferry over from Kowloon and spent the day going up the many many escalators that take you up through Soho etc. It was an interesting and insightful way of seeing Hong Kong. Later we took The Peak Tram up to The Peak. I remember doing this when I was here 10 years ago but this time it wasn’t raining so it was a completely different experience. After The Peak we headed out to the Stanley Markets before coming back to Kowloon to watch the laser show they have on the harbour every night and to meet up with my friend Jade and her husband to all have drinks and dinner together. We all had such a great night together. We ended up catching the ferry back to Hong Kong Island and going up the escalators again to Soho, where Jade took us to this great little bar called ‘The Feather Boa’. We had this amazing mango drink that had maltesers in it and powered chocolate all around the glass that made you want to just lick the inside and outside of your glass clean. Later we headed out for some delicious Thai. It was a great night!
On Wednesday we’d had every intention of going to Macau for the day, but in the end I decided the cold I’ve been trying to ignore was getting the better of me, so Chris and I just had a quiet day shopping and resting.
Today we went to see the Big Buddha, which I believe is the biggest in the world. We caught the metro to where we could get a very scenic cable car out to the Buddha and Monastery. Rachael, our line captain is a strict vegetarian and so seeing as we were seeing the Big Buddha we all decided to go vego for the day and ended up having the most amazing vegetarian meal at this great little restaurant we found in the village there.
Tonight we visited the Ladies Markets and the Temple Street Night Markets in Mong Kok. We are all pretty tired from such full but very fun days. Tomorrow (Friday) the Royal Princess arrives here in Hong Kong where we will all embark. Chris is totally enjoying is holiday, but I think is looking forward to some quiet sea days to rest while sail to our next port, Cambodia.
I’ll update my Royal Princess adventures when I can, probably when I get to Bangkok when Chris goes home .
Lots of love,
Jess xx
